QCN Fibre is a backhaul alternative in regional Queensland, opening up competition and opportunities by delivering additional spare capacity to regional Queensland.
We will utilise the existing fibre network owned by Powerlink Queensland and Energy Queensland.
Our initial work program involves connecting this existing fibre network, to the six NBN Points of Interconnect (POIs) in Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.
We will also explore opportunities to expand this fibre footprint moving forward.
As part of our future plans, we will explore opportunities and seek partnerships to expand QCN Fibre’s reach.
QCN Fibre’s network utilises Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) to provide very high capacity data transmission over optic fibres.
Simply put, it is a technology that puts together — multiplexes — data signals from different sources so they can share a single optical fibre pair while maintaining complete separation of the data streams.
Our network is unique, as the vast majority is strung above ground as Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) cables – part of the existing electricity network. This means that much of the network is not impacted by damage due to excavation or washout during major weather events.
