Our initial work program has connected the existing fibre network (built and owned by Powerlink and Energy Queensland), to these key six NBN Points of Interconnect (POIs) in:

  • Toowoomba
  • Bundaberg
  • Rockhampton
  • Mackay
  • Townsville
  • Cairns

Having completed stage one on time, we are currently enhancing our network to connect to all 22 NBN POIs across Queensland.

Our technology

QCN Fibre’s network utilises Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) to provide extremely high capacity data transmission over optic fibre.

We are currently expanding our capabilities further, rolling out cutting edge Ciena WaveLogic technology across our edge environment.

This technology multiplexes or ‘puts together’ data signals from different sources so they can share a single optical fibre pair while maintaining complete, secure, separation of data streams.

Our network is unique, as the vast majority is strung above ground as Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) cables – part of the existing electricity network. This means that much of the network is not impacted by damage due to excavation or washout during major weather events.

Regional Connectivity Program

The Australian Government has provided funding for QCN Fibre to connect high-capacity broadband to the towns of Bluff, Duaringa, Dingo and their surrounding areas.
